Cheaper and techier: Li Auto's redesigned Mega takes aim at its sales slump

Li Auto has rolled out a second-generation version of its Mega, the flagship battery-electric MPV that has struggled badly in the market. The new model is offered exclusively in a Home trim priced at 509,800 yuan (about $75,160) — 50,000 yuan under the previous Home version and 20,000 yuan below the Ultra trim introduced in April 2025 — with deliveries starting this week. Existing Li Auto owners who buy one will get 270-degree electrically dimmable glass valued at 15,000 yuan at no charge.

Hardware is where the update concentrates. Dual motors make a combined 413 kW, good for 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, while a 108-kWh battery with 5C charging can add 500 km of range in 10 minutes and delivers 710 km on the CLTC cycle. The chassis gains rear-wheel steering of up to 7 degrees — cutting the big MPV's turning radius to 5.5 meters — plus dual-chamber air springs and an 800-volt active anti-roll system. Driver assistance now runs on four LiDAR sensors and a pair of in-house Mach M100 chips with 2,560 TOPS of combined compute, and the cabin adds a 29-inch 6K OLED panoramic display, rotating zero-gravity second-row seats and a 33-speaker sound system.

The overhaul comes with Mega sales in free fall: July deliveries were just 336 units, down 88 percent year on year, and volume has stayed under 1,000 a month since November 2025 after a vehicle fire and an 11,411-unit recall dented demand. Founder and CEO Li Xiang has argued the MPV segment is at a "from Nokia to iPhone" inflection point as autonomous driving advances. A right-hand-drive version for Hong Kong, Macau and other such markets is planned before year-end.
