Freelander, a marque created by Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, is set to enter Australia and New Zealand in 2027. The Freelander 8 will be its first model in both markets, following its international debut in the United Arab Emirates. Kym Mellow has been named to lead the brand locally, while details of the SUV’s Australian version remain unconfirmed.

The 5.2-metre SUV is built on a Chery platform and, in China, is offered with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive range-extender powertrain. Its 60kWh battery is paired with a petrol engine that generates electricity, and the vehicle is rated for 310km of electric driving under the WLTC cycle. Production began in July at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover plant in Changshu.

Freelander says it intends to introduce six models over five years; the 8 is the only one revealed so far. The brand has not specified when in 2027 the SUV will arrive in Australia, nor its local price or equipment.
