Geely Holding at a Glance: The Conglomerate Behind Volvo, Lotus and Zeekr

A profile of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group — Li Shufu's private automotive empire that spans more than a dozen brands, millions of vehicles a year and a web of international stakes.

Zhejiang Geely Holding Group traces its roots to November 1986, when founder Li Shufu started the business in Taizhou, Zhejiang; the holding company took its current form in March 2003. Today it is headquartered in Hangzhou's Binjiang District, with Li Shufu as owner and honorary chairman, Andy An Conghui as chairman and Gan Jiayue as president and CEO.

The group's scale is considerable. It built more than 4.1 million vehicles in 2025, on revenue of roughly US$50.9 billion and net income of US$2.45 billion, and employed about 131,500 people as of 2022.

Its brand portfolio reaches well beyond the home market. Geely controls 78.7% of Volvo Cars and, through Volvo, 48.3% of Polestar, while also holding majorities in Lotus Cars and Smart and stakes in Aston Martin (17%), Proton (49.9%) and Renault Korea (34.2%). At home it runs Geely Auto — covering Galaxy, Zeekr (which oversees Lynk & Co), Radar and LEVC — plus commercial vehicle units such as Farizon and a half-share of the Horse Powertrain venture.

Beyond passenger cars, the conglomerate owns motorcycle makers Qianjiang and Benelli, smartphone brand Meizu, and flying-car ventures including Aerofugia and Terrafugia. It has also developed its own G-ASD driver-assistance system and built partnerships with Daimler, Renault, Baidu and, most recently, Ford.
