Omoda Jaecoo has opened orders in Brazil for the Jaecoo 5, a compact full-hybrid SUV that becomes the brand’s entry-level model in the country. Deliveries to dealerships are due to start on October 1. The Comfort is priced at R$154,990 and the Prestige at R$179,990 for an initial allocation of 3,600 vehicles; after that, the prices rise to R$159,990 and R$184,990 respectively. The company describes the entry version as Brazil’s least expensive full hybrid.
Both trims use Chery Group’s SHS-H system, pairing a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor, a dedicated hybrid transmission and a 1.83-kWh LiFePO4 battery. The 224-hp combined output and 30.1 kgfm of torque are unchanged between versions. Jaecoo quotes a 0–100 km/h time of 7.9 seconds and combined driving range of nearly 800 km. Inmetro fuel-economy figures are 15.5 km/l in town and 13.7 km/l on the highway. The battery recharges while driving, so the vehicle does not need to be plugged in.
The SUV measures 4.38 meters long and has seating for five, with 410 liters of luggage space, expanding to 1,214 liters when the rear seats are folded. Both versions include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 18-inch alloy wheels and six airbags. The Prestige adds a 13.2-inch screen, panoramic roof, ventilated power-adjustable front seats, a Sony audio system and 17 ADAS functions; the Comfort has a 9-inch screen and no ADAS package. Jaecoo provides a seven-year vehicle warranty and an eight-year battery warranty. The article also compares its output with the Toyota Yaris Hybrid’s 111 hp.
