2026 Proton S70 Prime MC2 photographed in Malaysia — top naturally-aspirated grade tipped to stay under RM70k

A photo gallery of the Prime — the range-topping naturally-aspirated grade of the updated Proton S70 — has emerged in Malaysia ahead of the car's official debut. The trim is expected to be priced between RM65,000 and RM69,000, roughly RM10,000 above the entry Lite, and order books for both NA variants have been open since September 7, with starting prices indicated at under RM60,000.

Paying the premium over the Lite brings automatic LED headlamps, 17-inch multi-spoke alloys in place of 16-inchers, leatherette for the seats and steering wheel, power-folding mirrors, front parking sensors and automatic climate control. Both grades share analogue instruments and an eight-inch touchscreen running the latest Saga infotainment software with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with six airbags and features such as blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. Higher-level aids like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise and lane keeping are, however, missing across the entire NA line.

Motive power comes from the Saga-sourced 1.5-litre port-injected i-GT four producing 120 PS and 150 Nm, sent to the front wheels via a new CVT believed to be the Wanliyang unit from the Chinese-market fourth-generation Geely Emgrand — reportedly fitted with a torque converter and a simulated eight-speed mode. Visually, the NA cars can be told apart by their plain black grille, the absence of a full-width rear light bar, and pre-facelift LED indicators.

Only the turbocharged MC2 variants are expected to receive the full in-house facelift, covering new lights, bumpers and even quad tailpipes borrowed from the X50. Six exterior colours are offered, and for reference the current turbo S70 spans RM68,800 to RM89,800 after a RM5,000 rebate.
