Geely-Renault JV Horse Powertrain unveils 13-in-1 plug-in hybrid drive unit, teases 1,113-hp SUV

Horse Powertrain, the powertrain engineering joint venture between Geely and Renault, has revealed a plug-in hybrid drive unit that consolidates 13 separate components into a single housing. Dubbed the 3DHT200, the assembly bundles the two electric machines, their inverters, the on-board charger, a DC-DC converter, the power distribution unit, a three-speed dedicated hybrid gearbox, transmission and vehicle controllers, plus the thermal management hardware — everything except the internal combustion engine itself.

The consolidation frees up 10% more packaging space, and the unit is flexible enough to operate either as a series hybrid, with the engine serving purely as a range extender, or in parallel, where combustion and electric power both drive the wheels.

A reworked electric motor layout steps up from a "2V/VV" design to a 3V/VVV arrangement, layering the electromagnetic field around the permanent magnets to give the magnetic flux an easier path. According to the partners, that yields 15% more torque density and 20% more power from a motor of unchanged size. The P3 traction motor is rated at 312 hp and can spin past 20,000 rpm, while the P1 generator delivers 150 hp; combustion-engine output has yet to be disclosed.

First application will be Geely's Galaxy Cruiser 700, an off-road-focused SUV claimed at 1,113 hp, with a 0-100 km/h sprint of three seconds, average consumption of around 20 km/l and the ability to climb slopes of up to 45 degrees.
