China’s Golden Week travel surge put electric-vehicle energy networks under pressure, and figures published by BYD and Nio point to higher per-station throughput at Nio’s battery-swap network. The article compares activity during the National Day holiday, which runs from October 1 to 7 and is one of China’s busiest travel periods.
BYD said its 12,165 Flash Charging stations handled more than 1.22 million charging sessions over the holiday. On the network’s busiest day, the reported average was 15.5 sessions per station, while its busiest individual site completed 160 charges. Nio had 4,168 swap stations; on its peak day, the reported average was 44 swaps per station, and its busiest site carried out 211 swaps. The article also lists a 9-minute session time for BYD and 6 minutes 49 seconds for Nio.
The article’s table gives Nio’s peak-day total as 183,664 swaps, but a paragraph in the same story cites 188,344, so those network-wide figures conflict. Its per-station comparison nevertheless shows roughly three times as many services at Nio sites on the respective peak days. The story also notes that BYD makes half of its Flash Charging connectors available to other brands, while some older BYD models do not support Flash Charging; Nio’s swap network is described as serving Nio vehicles only.
