GWM Australia is aiming to reach monthly ute sales of 1,500 by around the middle to latter part of next year. Chief operating officer John Kett said that level would be needed for the company to compete among the leading ute brands as it pursues a top-five position in the wider Australian market.
The target comes as GWM updates its Cannon Alpha ute and expands its range of powertrains. Its current offerings span 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre diesels, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid, and a new 3.0-litre turbo-diesel intended to rival the Isuzu D-Max, Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger.
GWM ranked seventh in Australia in August 2026, selling 4,870 vehicles overall. Kett said diesel still represents roughly 70 to 75 per cent of the ute market, while the company also sees growing interest in plug-in hybrids.
