JAC distributor Evolvelectric Motors has partnered with FT Assembly, a subsidiary of Feytech, to assemble the T9 pickup in Malaysia. Production of the plug-in hybrid and electric versions is expected to begin in November and January, respectively. The PHEV is due to reach the market first as an imported vehicle in early November, while the diesel will also be assembled locally; its start date was not specified.
FT Assembly has put RM3.6 million into an 84,000-square-foot facility in Kulim, Kedah, and may invest up to RM8 million more over the next three years. First-year output is projected at 3,000 vehicles, with local content targeted at up to 30%. Evolvelectric says the plant could generate RM230 million in annual economic value, and the companies are also considering export opportunities, subject to suitable conditions.
