MG’s premium IM brand is preparing to add a third model to its UK range in 2027, following the IM5 saloon and IM6 SUV. David Allison, MG UK’s director of product and planning, said the new vehicle would enter a market segment the company does not currently serve. His comments point toward a large, seven-seat electric SUV, potentially taking on models such as the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9, but MG has not confirmed the vehicle’s identity or detailed specifications.

IM is positioned as a technology showcase, distinct from MG’s core range. The existing IM5 and IM6 use an 800-volt platform and offer charging at up to 375kW; the brand also cites a 0–62mph time of 3.5 seconds, 750bhp and advanced driver-assistance technology among its capabilities. The new model is expected to bring similarly advanced equipment, although features such as rear-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension and automated parking have not been confirmed for it.

MG expects IM to sell about 6,500 cars in the UK in 2026, out of roughly 100,000 projected MG sales overall. Allison said the brand would aim to undercut competitors on price. IM’s other-market range includes the larger LS8 and LS9, which are six-seat range-extender hybrids, and the all-electric, five-seat LS7. None has been confirmed as the UK-bound third model.
