Beijing's next auto show lands in March 2027 — but as a themed exhibition, not a full-scale annual event

The Beijing Auto Show will stage its next edition in March 2027, less than a year after the April 2026 gathering, though it will be a specialized themed exhibition rather than a comprehensive show. Statements issued Monday on the Shanghai Auto Show's official WeChat account and by the CCPIT automotive industry branch made clear that full-scale exhibitions will keep their established rotation: April in Beijing in even-numbered years, April in Shanghai in odd-numbered years.

The confirmation followed a September 3 coordination meeting between the two organizing bodies, which framed the arrangement as a way to pool industry resources and keep the two events from colliding. The theme, scale, and detailed schedule of the 2027 Beijing edition were not disclosed.

Questions about the show's format arose in June 2026, when an exhibition calendar circulating on social media slotted a 2027 Beijing event for March 27 to April 5 and tagged it "annual." Media outlets later verified via inquiry hotlines that something was planned, but organizers stayed silent on its nature until now. The two exhibitions trace back to 1985 in Shanghai and 1990 in Beijing and have alternated since 2003; a partnership rupture between the organizers in 2024 had fueled talk of a shift to yearly staging.
