E.On and Chinese automaker BYD have introduced their first joint customer offer in Germany. Available to order with BYD’s fully electric and plug-in hybrid models, the package combines vehicle purchases or leases with E.On Home Charge. Existing BYD owners can also take part, allowing customers to plan smart home charging alongside a vehicle order or after purchase.

The service provides a credit of 12 euro cents for each kilowatt-hour charged at home in smart mode, for a minimum period of 24 months. At an average monthly charging volume of 170 kWh, the companies estimate savings of about €20. BYD drivers who sign up for the relevant E.On electricity tariff can also receive a one-time €80 payment as new E.On customers, plus another new-customer bonus; the article does not specify the latter’s value.

Charging is managed through E.On’s Mein E.On app. Users set a departure time and target battery level, after which smart mode schedules charging; a separate “instant charge” option allows charging to begin immediately. The companies say they plan further joint offers and closer links between electric vehicles and home energy systems. Longer term, they aim to include bidirectional charging, potentially using vehicles as flexible storage within the energy system.
