BYD has presented the Atto 8, an all-electric counterpart to its Sealion 8 plug-in hybrid SUV, at the Paris motor show. The model is intended to become the Chinese brand’s European flagship when it goes on sale there in 2027. In Australia, the related plug-in hybrid is sold as the Sealion 8; BYD Australia says an electric version is not currently under consideration for that market.

The Atto 8 uses a 115kWh lithium-iron-phosphate Blade battery and has a claimed WLTP range of up to 651km. European buyers will be offered rear- and all-wheel-drive versions. The top configuration is rated at 570kW and 775Nm, with a claimed 0–100km/h time of 4.6 seconds. By comparison, the most powerful Sealion 8 PHEV is rated at 359kW and 675Nm, and is said to reach 100km/h in 4.9 seconds.

BYD says the SUV can use its 1,500kW Flash Charging system, with charging from 10 to 70 per cent taking five minutes and to 97 per cent taking nine minutes under the company’s stated conditions. The automaker plans to install 3,000 Flash Charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027. The technology has already appeared in Europe on the Denza Z9 GT, with an Australian rollout planned to begin at Denza dealerships in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide between October and December 2026.
