BYD launched the second-generation Seagull in Zhengzhou, China, offering five trims priced from 65,900 yuan (about $9,800) to 99,900 yuan (about $14,900). The entry price is 4,000 yuan below that of the 2025 model’s starting version. Depending on the market, the Seagull is also sold under names including Dolphin, Surf, Dolphin Mini and Atto 1.
The hatchback has grown to 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm tall, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. That makes it 425 mm longer than its predecessor and adds 150 mm to the wheelbase. The new cabin accommodates five people, up from four, while cargo space reaches 1,380 litres and the front trunk adds 94 litres.
Power comes from an 85 kW or 95 kW electric motor, each producing 130 Nm. Buyers can choose a 30.1 kWh or 39.2 kWh second-generation Blade Battery, with CLTC ranges of 320 km and 420 km respectively. BYD says the three highest trims with the larger battery can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes. An optional DiPilot 300 system combines LiDAR with features such as city and highway navigation assistance.
The launch comes as Seagull sales face pressure: global deliveries reached 266,000 in the first nine months of 2026, down 33% year on year, while sales in China fell 66% to 83,600. The source identifies Geely’s EX2 as a key competitor; it sold 310,000 units in China over the same period, ahead of the Tesla Model Y.
