BYD has brought its Racco electric kei car to Sri Lanka, where the introductory price is 11.45 million Sri Lankan rupees, equivalent to about Rp 623 million. The offer is listed as valid through November 9; BYD Sri Lanka says the price could rise after the promotion. That is about 2.5 times the Racco’s price in Japan. Sri Lankan vehicle prices are generally high because of import duties and taxes: the petrol-powered Toyota Wigo, for comparison, costs around 8.65 million rupees, or about Rp 300 million.
The Racco is a front-wheel-drive, four-seat EV with a boxy shape. It measures 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide and 1,800 mm tall, with a 2,520 mm wheelbase. Its minimum turning radius is 4.8 metres, and luggage capacity is 280 litres.
Buyers can choose between 22.4-kWh and 35.84-kWh lithium iron phosphate batteries. The electric motor produces up to 47 kW (63 hp) and 160 Nm, while the stated driving range varies from 210 km to 320 km depending on the battery.
BYD is pursuing right-hand-drive markets, with Macau and Sri Lanka mentioned in the report. In Indonesia, the company has not confirmed a launch: its public relations chief, Luther Panjaitan, said BYD is evaluating demand and has conducted direct surveys. Initial feedback has been positive, but the company describes the assessment as ongoing.
