Changan’s Australian distribution operation is considering plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and range-extender electric vehicle (EREV) offerings for its Avatr and Nevo brands. Avatr Australia’s head of brand and marketing said the options could arrive in Australia in the near term, with more details expected in local announcements over the coming months. No specific models or launch dates have been confirmed.
Avatr’s 07L and 06T have so far been confirmed for Australia only as battery-electric vehicles, although both are available with EREV powertrains in China. The 06T’s range-extender setup pairs a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with two electric motors and a 45.1kWh battery. Its combined output is 370kW, while the claimed total range is 1,200km under the NEDC test cycle. The Chinese-market Concept T09 flagship SUV, unveiled in Paris this week, is also EREV-only.
Deepal currently sells the S07 as an EV in Australia. Its S05 and S07 PHEVs have been confirmed for imminent European launches, including right-hand-drive versions. Nevo, meanwhile, is due to enter Spain from early 2027 before reaching Australia later the following year, and offers PHEV or EREV powertrains across its range.
The move would target a growing Australian market: PHEV and EREV sales rose 122.7% in September 2026 to 10,072, bringing their year-to-date share to 8.9%. Their 85,278 year-to-date sales remained below conventional hybrids at 160,053 and EVs at 180,591.
