Chery has confirmed specifications for the Stockman, a diesel plug-in hybrid pickup planned for markets including Australia, with first deliveries expected early next year. The new truck is aimed at rivals such as the BYD Shark and the forthcoming GWM Poer. Chery has not confirmed whether the model will be imported into Brazil.
Its powertrain pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel with an electric motor and a 34-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Combined output is 479 hp and 81.5 kgfm of torque, exceeding the BYD Shark’s cited 469 hp and 71.4 kgfm; the Shark uses a gasoline-based hybrid system. Chery says the Stockman can travel up to 96 km on electric power alone and tow as much as 3,495 kg, matching established pickups such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max in towing capacity.
The diesel version uses double-wishbone independent front suspension and a leaf-spring rear setup, prioritizing work and off-road use. Front, center and rear differential locks are standard. Cabin equipment includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, a 14-speaker audio system and advanced driver-assistance features. A separate gasoline-hybrid Stockman is planned with independent rear suspension. In Australia, the top-spec BYD Shark starts at AUD 62,900, providing a price reference for one of the Stockman’s competitors.
