Inpow Battery Technology, GAC Group’s battery industrialization arm, began production at a new facility in Thailand on October 29, 2026. The plant marked the start of operations with the roll-off of its first locally produced power battery pack. Inpow said the expansion is intended to strengthen the new-energy vehicle supply chain in Southeast Asia and extend its manufacturing capabilities to overseas markets.
The opening follows Inpow’s announcement on October 15 that its cumulative global output had reached 300,000 battery packs. Its batteries are used in several GAC Aion models, including the i60, N60 and UT. Inpow reports total investment of 10.9 billion yuan (about US$1.63 billion). The company develops and manufactures power and energy-storage batteries, and says its research and development team has more than 800 members. It has invested over 2 billion yuan (about US$300 million) in R&D and holds more than 700 patents.
The move builds on GAC’s existing presence in Thailand. From its 2023 market entry through August 2026, 34,898 GAC vehicles were registered there. The brand’s dealer and service network has grown to 73 locations in 40 provinces, while its Thai vehicle factory has annual capacity of up to 50,000 units and is operating at full capacity. GAC also says it has established more than 300 charging stations independently or with partners, providing over 1,000 DC fast-charging points nationwide.
