GWM Malaysia has begun taking bookings for the Wey G9 Hi4 HEV, adding a conventional hybrid option to the MPV range already sold in the country. The existing plug-in hybrid version arrived in January 2026 and is expected to approach 2,000 deliveries. GWM has not yet provided a price estimate for the new HEV.

The HEV uses GWM’s Hi4 hybrid all-wheel-drive system, combining a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, two electric motors and a 1.67-kWh battery. Its stated combined output is 358 PS and 782 Nm. The HEV is aimed at buyers who want a hybrid without relying on access to charging facilities, according to the rationale described in the report.

For comparison, the G9 PHEV has a 1.5-litre turbo engine, two electric motors, a four-speed hybrid transmission and a 44.2-kWh NMC battery. It produces 442 PS and 642 Nm, with electric-only range rated at 170 km under NEDC (about 145 km WLTP) and combined range of up to 1,000 km NEDC (about 850 km WLTP). The HEV is expected to offer equipment broadly similar to the PHEV and may also be assembled locally at EPMB’s Pegoh plant in Melaka.
