EPMB held a line-off ceremony for the GWM Wey G9 HEV and Ora 5 HEV at its Pegoh plant in Melaka, Malaysia, adding the two hybrids to the models it assembles there. The plant now builds eight models: the Haval H6, Wey G9 PHEV, MG ZS, MG S5, Xpeng G6 and Xpeng X9, alongside the two new HEVs.
EPMB said both new models use locally assembled front frame modules, rear axles, instrument panels and wiring harnesses. The Wey G9 also sources its seats, centre consoles, cooling module and interior door trims locally. Since October 2024, the facility has assembled more than 10,000 GWM vehicles, and over 1,100 Malaysia-built Wey G9s have been exported to Thailand and Indonesia.
The Ora 5 HEV, a B-segment SUV, has an estimated Malaysian price of RM115,000. Its 1.5-litre turbo engine and electric motor work with a two-speed hybrid transmission to deliver a combined 223 PS and 476 Nm. The Wey G9 Hi4 HEV is priced at about RM250,000 and combines a 2.0-litre turbo engine with two electric motors and a four-speed hybrid transmission, producing 358 PS and 782 Nm. EPMB described the expanded GWM line-up as part of its role in the brand’s Malaysia and ASEAN growth plans.
