Malaysia recorded 74,259 new-vehicle registrations in September 2026, according to data from the Road Transport Department (JPJ). That was 3.9% fewer than in August but 18.6% more than a year earlier. Registrations for the first nine months totalled 640,875, a record for that period and almost 16,000 ahead of the previous high set in 2024.

Perodua led the makes with 27,838 registrations, followed by Proton at 18,149. Both were down month on month, and the gap between them widened: Perodua registered about 1.53 vehicles for every one Proton. Toyota placed third with 10,606, up 0.7%, while Honda was fourth with 4,155.

Jetour was the month’s biggest climber among the leading makes, reaching fifth with 1,830 registrations—a 47.7% increase from August and its strongest monthly result and highest Malaysian ranking to date. Its T2 accounted for 1,248 registrations, including 342 of the T2 i-DM hybrid. Omoda Jaecoo followed in sixth with 1,407. Tesla fell to tenth after registrations dropped 39.7% to 703; BYD was 12th with 615, up 7.7%.

Other Chinese brands in the top 30 included Great Wall Motor in 14th, Zeekr in 17th, Leapmotor in 22nd and Xpeng in 24th. The figures cover vehicle registrations by make, rather than a ranking of individual models.
