Luxeed, the electric vehicle brand Huawei runs jointly with Chery, has scheduled the official launch of its RX coupe SUV for September 28, with the event starting at 2:30 pm Beijing time. The model will become the fourth offering in a lineup that already spans the S7 sedan, R7 coupe SUV and V9 MPV.
Confirmation of the date came shortly after Luxeed introduced an 81-kWh battery option for the RX, trimming roughly 10 percent off the entry pre-sales price to 269,800 yuan (about $39,980). The smaller pack is offered in two builds: one with in-cabin LiDAR on a shared optical path from 269,800 yuan, and another carrying an architecture ready for Level 3 autonomy from 329,800 yuan. Earlier pre-order versions with a 100-kWh pack were listed at 299,800-359,800 yuan, with final prices due at launch.
Built on Huawei's Tuling platform, the mid-to-large RX comes in single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive forms, measures 5,020 mm long with a 3,000-mm wheelbase, and pairs the Giant Whale battery platform with a new-generation electric drive system. The top variant adds redundancy across power supply, computing, braking and steering in preparation for Level 3 driving, though that capability will not be active when the car launches. Luxeed executive Zhao Changjiang has said 70 percent of pre-order customers already own other cars, arguing that a smaller battery covers most daily needs.
The same event will also see Stelato, Huawei's brand with BAIC, begin taking pre-orders for its first MPV, the V8. Unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21, the flagship family van offers both battery-electric and extended-range powertrains, stretches 5,335 mm with a 3,250-mm wheelbase and power sliding doors, and will slot in as the brand's third model after the S9 sedan and G9 SUV. Pricing and a launch date remain unannounced.
