Omoda plans to bring a hybrid version of the C7 to Malaysia in 2027, following the SUV’s petrol and plug-in hybrid variants. The model is known as the Omoda 7 in some other markets, and its hybrid powertrain was outlined at Chery’s annual International User Summit in Wuhu, China. The system is called SHS-H, with the final letter identifying it as a conventional hybrid.

A newly announced 5-kWh battery is the main technical highlight. Omoda did not provide details on its chemistry or other specifications, but said the system supports 2.2-kW vehicle-to-load output and a Super Quiet Mode intended to make starts, acceleration and cruising quieter. The battery is larger than the 1.83-kWh unit used in the Jaecoo J5 and J7 hybrids, so the C7 is expected to offer more electric-only driving. The source estimates its total range could exceed 1,000 km, but this is not a confirmed figure.

The C7’s Malaysian petrol version is expected to arrive first, likely before the end of October 2026, with a 1.6-litre turbo engine producing 197 PS and 290 Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. A locally assembled PHEV is also planned. Its stated combined output is 360 PS and 530 Nm, with an 18.3-kWh battery and a claimed 95-km electric range. Further details of the HEV are expected in the months ahead.
