Proton has put its electrified lineup in front of the Royal Malaysian Police, delivering an eMas 5, an eMas 7 EV and an eMas 7 PHEV last week for a hands-on assessment. Each car is a Premium-spec example, with the plug-in hybrid going one step further in range-topping Premium Plus form.
The force will evaluate the trio on driving character, everyday practicality and what charging them actually involves, with energy provider Gentari picking up the bill for electricity throughout the trial. Deputy CEO Abdul Rashid bin Musa framed the exercise as a way to show whether electrified vehicles can hold up under police requirements, adding that Pro-Net — the company's new-energy division — intends to keep supporting government partners as Malaysia pushes toward greener mobility.
A positive outcome could see the eMas range graduate to genuine patrol-car duty, though that ultimately rests on the test results and government decisions. Proton notes that ministries and agencies are increasingly curious about adding EVs and hybrids to their fleets, and believes letting officials live with its cars offers "valuable insights" into what large institutional buyers really need.
