Shanghai Auto Show fixes 2027 dates for April 23-May 2, adding embodied AI zone

The 22nd Shanghai Auto Show will run from April 23 to May 2, 2027 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), organizers confirmed at a press briefing on Tuesday. The show floor is projected at 400,000 square meters, which would top the 380,000 square meters of this year's Beijing edition.

The headline change is a dedicated embodied AI zone. The event is broadening its scope beyond vehicles into smart hardware, with demonstrations of technologies such as physical AI and advanced chips, and organizers are positioning it as a two-way gateway — helping international brands build their China presence while supporting Chinese companies' overseas expansion.

The dates were unveiled a day after the bodies behind the Beijing and Shanghai shows reaffirmed their alternating format: comprehensive exhibitions each April, hosted by Beijing in even-numbered years and Shanghai in odd-numbered years. Beijing will additionally stage a specialized themed show in March 2027, putting to rest earlier speculation that its event might shift to an annual cycle.

The Shanghai show will overlap the May Day holiday, and organizers plan to tie it into the city's retail, cultural and tourism offerings to broaden its appeal. For scale, the 2025 Shanghai edition gathered close to 1,000 exhibitors from 26 countries and regions across more than 360,000 square meters, while this year's Beijing show logged 1.28 million visits and 1,451 vehicles on display, including 181 debuts.
