Geely has released images of an updated fourth-generation Emgrand in China, a model that may offer an early indication of the styling planned for the facelifted Proton S70 MC2. The older Emgrand is expected to remain on sale alongside the newer fifth-generation car. The S70 is closely related, but Proton has not confirmed that it will adopt all of the Emgrand’s changes.
The exterior revisions include an eight-point grille and a reshaped front bumper with a full-width insert surrounding a lower central intake. At the rear, the bumper has been revised with a black lower section incorporating the reflectors, a chrome strip and diffuser-style fins. The pictured car does not show the redesigned taillights or quad exhaust outlets seen on S70 test prototypes. It wears 17-inch multi-spoke wheels, also used on earlier S70 MC versions.
Inside, the Emgrand is set to receive a larger infotainment screen, with the centre vents and air-conditioning controls repositioned lower on the dashboard, as well as a new tan colour scheme. It is not yet clear whether the S70 will use this cabin or a different refresh like the one shown for the updated Proton X50.
The China-market Emgrand is expected to keep a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine rated at 120 PS and 150 Nm, paired with a CVT or five-speed manual. The article expects the refreshed S70’s new appearance to be reserved for its 181 PS, 290 Nm turbo version, which uses a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Proton’s facelift is anticipated later this year, but no launch date has been confirmed.
