Brazil registered 268,721 new vehicles in September, a record for the month, according to figures released by industry group Fenabrave on October 5. The total included 216,366 passenger cars and 52,355 light commercial vehicles. With 21 business days—equal to August—registrations were up 16.16% from September 2025 and 2.13% from the previous month.
Year-to-date sales reached 2,156,499 vehicles, 19.32% higher than in the same period of 2025. Fenabrave said that was the second-best cumulative result on record, with only 2011 higher. The group’s president pointed to continued consumer demand despite challenging credit conditions, and said price reductions and improved financing terms under programs including Move Brasil and Carro Sustentável were helping influence purchase decisions.
Fiat led September with 53,586 registrations, extending its run at the top to 69 consecutive months. Volkswagen was second with 42,372, followed by Chevrolet at 27,526. Chinese automakers also featured prominently: BYD placed fourth with 22,218 vehicles, up 121.65% year over year; GWM remained in the top 10 for a third consecutive month with 8,964; and GAC set a sales record in Brazil with 2,678. These figures reflect registrations across the market, rather than sales of a particular model.
