The week's pattern in Brazil is scale: BYD is planning a far larger factory and its cheapest EV is selling near the top of the market, while new entrants crowd into the R$120,000–R$150,000 electric bracket and the Chery Group lines up a long list of 2027 arrivals.

BYD: more capacity, more local content

BYD says it wants to be Brazil's top-selling automaker by 2030 and has begun seeking permits to take its Camaçari complex in Bahia to 600,000 vehicles a year, saying demand already exceeds output (BYD targets Brazil sales leadership, 600,000-unit output target). The site was designed for 150,000 a year, with a later phase to reach 300,000, and no completion date has been set for the larger plan. Local production is advancing: the plant has reached 100,000 vehicles, welding and paint buildings are finished and in testing, and BYD plans its first fully Brazil-made vehicles in early 2027. More than 1,100 hires are in training (workers added), and supplier Nexteer has opened a steering-system assembly site about 10 km away.

On the sales side, the BYD Dolphin Mini is second in Brazil's October passenger-car ranking through October 23 with 6,200 registrations, behind the Hyundai HB20 (7,984) and ahead of the Fiat Argo (6,097), raising the possibility of an electric model topping a monthly chart for the first time. A retail-only view of January–September would put BYD second among automakers with 128,439 registrations, just ahead of Fiat. Dealers are also discounting: the Song Pro GL is R$161,490 through October, and the Seal can reach about R$270,000 with a trade-in.

New entrants in the entry-EV bracket

BAIC is entering with the Arcfox T1 at R$129,990 (Pro) and R$139,990 (Max), up for pre-order; dealers have begun promoting pre-sales, though customers cannot yet complete a reservation. Dongfeng's DFM brand has started sales of the Box at R$135,900 and the Vigo SUV at R$169,900. The reports name the BYD Dolphin GS, Geely EX2 and GAC Aion UT as the rivals in this bracket. At the top end, MG priced the IM6 at R$368,990 and R$439,990, and Denza's Z sports car has been photographed in Brazil, one of three Denza launches planned by the end of 2026.

The Chery Group's 2027 pipeline

Omoda & Jaecoo confirmed the Omoda 7 SHS-H (217 hp) and the electric Omoda QQ for 2027; the Omoda 4 is expected in the second half of the year, possibly by August, and an Omoda 2 is planned for the entry SUV segment. Lepas will arrive in 2027 with three imported flex-fuel plug-in hybrids, the L4, L6 and L8. Chery is also weighing Freelander and Luxeed around 2028, subject to dealer approval. Jetour plans to launch the G700 before the end of October. Omoda Jaecoo is waiting until after Brazil's elections to advance local-production talks.

What it means

  • Chinese brands held 18.7% of Brazilian registrations through September (402,619 of 2,156,499), according to this analysis.
  • Local assembly is the common direction: BYD's expansion, Geely's 2027 lineup changes and flex-fuel plug-in hybrids from the Chery Group all respond to Brazilian conditions.
  • Most of the Chery Group items are 2027 plans, not launches, and several carry no confirmed prices.
