BYD has revealed cabin and technical details of the next-generation Seagull, known as the Dolphin Mini in Brazil, ahead of its expected arrival at dealerships in China. The electric hatchback gets a redesigned interior, more equipment and a switch to rear-wheel drive, with its electric motor now mounted at the rear.
A new floating display is split between driver information and infotainment. The driver-facing section shows speed, selected gear, range, energy use and drive modes, while the larger area handles navigation, music and other functions. Both front seats have electric adjustment, and the driver’s seat adds massage. Other cabin additions include multicolor ambient lighting, adjustable rear air vents, storage bins beneath the rear seats and BYD’s removable magnetic “Magic” buttons for selected controls.
The rear-mounted motor produces 95 kW, or about 129 hp. Buyers are expected to have a choice of 30 kWh and 39.2 kWh batteries, with claimed ranges of 320–420 km on the CLTC test cycle—roughly 262–344 km under WLTP estimates. An ultrafast charging option is expected to take the battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes; a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor is also planned for the DiPilot 300 driver-assistance package.
The car measures 4.21 meters long, 1.81 meters wide and 1.57 meters tall, with a 2.65-meter wheelbase. Its new front compartment holds 94 liters, while luggage capacity reaches 1,380 liters with the rear seats folded. The expected price is below 100,000 yuan; the current Seagull costs 69,900–85,900 yuan. BYD is positioning the new car against Geely’s EX2. The current model recorded 74,087 deliveries from January to August, down 66.5% year on year.
