BYD’s Flash Charging system has been introduced in Indonesia, where it is advertised as charging an electric-car battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. A 10% to 70% charge is said to take five minutes. The charging stations were introduced by PT BYD Motor Indonesia on October 14, 2026, and are currently compatible with two models: the New Denza D9 and Denza Z9 GT.
At the Periklindo Electric Vehicle Conference in Jakarta on October 28, BYD Flash Charging head Ubaedilah acknowledged that the impact of very fast charging on battery life remains a subject of debate. He said BYD is continuing development work to address durability concerns rather than treating the fast charging capability as proof that battery degradation is not an issue.
BYD says it has redesigned elements spanning the cathode, electrodes, ions and the battery system to support high charging speeds while preserving service life. Ubaedilah said the second-generation Blade Battery used with the system was developed with durability in mind. He also cited BYD’s global research and development workforce of 123,000, more than 71,000 accumulated patents, and a pace of 45 patents generated per working day. The article does not provide independent long-term test results for Flash Charging’s effect on battery life.
