Indonesia's week mixed sales weakness at Chery with a local-hiring protest at BYD's plant and a run of launches around the PEVS and GIIAS Makassar shows.

Chery slips while Jaecoo has a waiting list

Chery's Indonesian wholesale deliveries fell 45.2% in the first nine months to 8,313 units, and the brand dropped out of the top-10 list, with its production shifting toward the Jaecoo J5 (report). Jaecoo itself is quoting J5 buyers a one-to-two-month wait (report).

BYD: local hiring pressure, regional pricing, a possible new model

A group described in social-media footage as a community organisation gathered at BYD's Subang plant demanding priority for local job seekers and a review of permit and waste arrangements; the report does not independently establish those claims, and Industry Minister Sarmuji has been informed (report). BYD's vice president has said the plant has hired 5,000 Indonesian workers (report).

On pricing, the Standard M6 EV is Rp 414 million on the road in Makassar against Rp 395 million in Jakarta (report). BYD displayed the Atto 2 and says it is considering it for the compact SUV segment, without confirming a sale date (report). Denza is marketing the Z9 GT at Rp 2.25 billion on the road in Jakarta (report).

Plug-ins and commercial vehicles

DFSK showed the E5 Plus plug-in hybrid at PEVS as a step for buyers not ready to rely on public charging (report) and introduced a separate emblem for its commercial range, alongside electric models and local production (report). A JAC UrbanMover N90EV began delivering fresh fruit in Makassar (report).

Coming

Luxeed plans to enter Indonesia next year with the Stormax; its China-market equivalent starts at 259,800 yuan and no Indonesian price has been given (report). A global-market Stormax seen in Wuhu may be the version considered, though Luxeed has not confirmed this (report).

What it means

  • Demand data is uneven: Chery's volumes are down sharply while Jaecoo has a queue, which points to differences between brands under the same group, not a market-wide shift.
  • Local jobs are becoming a public issue for BYD's Subang plant, at the same time as it prices and extends its range.
