Brazil recorded 16,470 new sedan registrations in September, according to Fenabrave data cited by Motor1. That was 23.6% fewer than a year earlier and just 6.1% of all 268,721 vehicles registered nationwide. The result was slightly above August’s total of 16,264. The Chevrolet Onix Plus led compact sedans with 5,350 registrations, its best monthly result of 2026; the VW Virtus and Hyundai HB20S followed.

In the midsize category, BYD’s King registered 1,666 units, extending its lead over the Toyota Corolla for a second consecutive month. The Corolla recorded 475, its weakest monthly tally since June 2002, as Toyota’s production remained reduced during the move of its line from Indaiatuba to Sorocaba. The Corolla still led the category’s 2026 year-to-date figures. Nissan’s Sentra registered only three units; its retirement from the Brazilian market has been confirmed.

The premium rankings also featured Chinese brands. BYD’s Seal placed third among premium midsize sedans with 90 registrations. Denza’s Z9 GT led large premium sedans with 52 units in its first month on sale, taking just over half of that category’s September registrations. The BMW 3 Series remained the premium midsize leader, marking its 85th consecutive month at the top.
