BYD moves 440,293 vehicles in August, up 17.8%, as exports set a fresh record

BYD delivered 440,293 new energy vehicles in August, its strongest month of 2026 and a 17.8% jump from a year earlier. The result, up 5% from July, marked the fourth straight month of year-on-year growth as the company claws back from a sluggish start to the year.

The powertrain mix kept tilting toward all-electric models. Passenger BEV sales hit a record 256,230 units — 59.1% of passenger volume, versus 53.7% a year ago — while plug-in hybrids barely grew at 177,154. Commercial vehicle sales more than tripled year-on-year to 6,909.

Exports did the heavy lifting: overseas volume surged 134% to a record 189,466 units, or 43% of the monthly total, more than offsetting a 14.3% domestic decline to 250,827 units.

Cumulative January-August sales stand at 2.67 million, still 6.8% below last year's pace, though the gap has narrowed sharply. BYD has blamed earlier delivery delays on the switch to a second-generation Blade Battery with flash-charging support; with capacity ramping, monthly sales have set successive 2026 highs in July and August. The rebound comes as the company looks to steady earnings after a first half in which revenue and net profit both fell.
