Spain recorded 98,487 new passenger-car registrations in October 2026, up 1.8% year on year despite having two fewer working days than in October 2025. The month brought the year-to-date total to 1,010,545, a 6.2% increase, although it remained below the level for the same period in 2019. The figures were released on November 2 by the Spanish industry associations ANFAC, Faconauto and Ganvam.
Electrified cars—battery-electric and plug-in hybrid models—accounted for 31,044 registrations, or 31.5% of October’s market, after growing 43.1% from a year earlier. Their share for January through October reached 24.6%, with 248,343 vehicles sold. Conventional hybrids remained the most popular powertrain type. New cars’ average annual CO2 emissions also fell below 100 grams per kilometre for the first time, according to the report.
Volkswagen led October’s brand rankings with 7,671 registrations, ahead of Toyota at 7,563 and Kia at 6,536. BYD placed fifth with 5,306, only 86 behind fourth-ranked Dacia; its volume was up 89.1% year on year. BYD’s Atto 2 was the month’s third-best-selling model, with 1,911 registrations, more than five times its October 2025 figure. The Dacia Sandero topped the model list with 3,284.
Toyota remained the year-to-date brand leader with 88,247 registrations, while the Sandero also led the model ranking for January through October, at 29,210. October’s overall market growth was also supported by private buyers and rental companies; registrations to businesses declined.
