BYD is preparing to take its Racco electric kei car beyond Japan, with Macau and Sri Lanka identified as its first overseas markets. Reservations are open in Macau, while an official launch event in Sri Lanka is scheduled for October 9, 2026. The announcements came at a celebration held at a BYD dealership in Japan’s Kanagawa area, after the company said the Racco had received more than 10,000 orders in Japan.

The Racco was developed for Japan’s kei-car rules, which limit vehicle size and power. BYD said two months earlier that it was assessing right-hand-drive markets for the model, without naming any destinations. The article identifies Hong Kong and the UK as possible future markets, citing their existing small-car offerings, but these remain speculation rather than confirmed BYD plans. Australia is considered less likely because the cost of vehicle homologation could make sales uneconomic. Thailand was not mentioned, and the report says left-hand-drive markets—including China—are not currently expected to receive the car.

In Japan, the Racco has a single front-mounted electric motor rated at 63 hp and an LFP battery. Buyers can choose a 22.4-kWh pack with a stated WLTC range of 210 km or a 35.84-kWh pack rated for 320 km. Japanese pricing starts at ¥2,145,000.
