BYD ranked as Indonesia’s third-largest automotive brand in September 2026, behind Toyota and Daihatsu. It recorded 6,031 wholesale deliveries and 7,421 retail sales, ahead of Suzuki in both measures. The results put it above several established Japanese brands, including Mitsubishi and Honda, in the respective rankings.

The company’s immediate priority is making fuller use of its newly inaugurated Indonesian production facility, according to Luther Panjaitan, head of public and government relations at PT BYD Motor Indonesia. The plant is capable of producing up to 10,000 vehicles a month. BYD plans to increase utilization progressively, taking the development of the national market into account rather than assuming the factory will immediately run at full capacity.

Panjaitan said production choices will also be guided by Indonesian consumer demand, so locally built models better match the market. BYD has ambitions to become a leading automotive brand in the country, including beyond the electric-vehicle segment. For now, however, the company is concentrating on its factory, its product offering and the development of a new-energy vehicle ecosystem.
