A group described in social-media footage as an Indonesian community organization visited BYD’s factory in Subang, Indonesia, demanding priority for local job seekers. The group also called on the company to review arrangements concerning spatial-planning permits and production waste. The report says the plant has already hired 5,000 Indonesian workers.
BYD Vice President Liu Xueliang gave that employment figure when the factory was inaugurated in September 2026. The facility represents an investment of Rp 11.7 trillion. Liu said the company aims to employ as many as 20,000 Indonesians once the plant reaches full production capacity, as production scales up.
The Subang factory had faced disruption during construction in 2025, with Indonesian MPR Deputy Speaker Eddy Soeparno previously speaking out about alleged interference by local groups and thuggery. BYD’s manufacturing processes are being carried out in Indonesia, and the plant is also expected to support the growth of the local auto-parts industry.
