BYD has not set a new date for starting Song Plus production in Brazil, despite announcing in January that the SUV would be built at its Camaçari, Bahia, plant in 2026. Company representatives reiterated during a visit to the site that local production remains planned, but gave no revised timetable. BYD Brasil director Henrique Antunes said model selection reflects Brazilian market potential, expected volume and the timing of each opportunity, with the local team presenting projects for approval by headquarters.

The Atto 2 moved ahead after BYD secured investment approval for its production. It targets a price band of roughly R$160,000 to R$170,000, closer to the average price of new cars in Brazil, while the Song Plus costs more than R$200,000. BYD says the Song Plus has not been dropped and will continue to be imported from China in the meantime. Although it is no longer sold in China, production there continues for export markets including Brazil and Europe; the Song Plus family recorded 19,677 registrations in Europe during 2025.

The SUV’s 2027 range has also changed since the original production announcement. It now uses a 1.5-liter turbo engine in place of the naturally aspirated 1.5-liter unit, and combined output rises from 235 to 239 hp. Battery capacity increases from 18.3 to 26.6 kWh, lifting Inmetro-rated electric range from 68 to 99 km; BYD states a total range of up to 1,150 km. The updated entry version remains priced at R$249,990. BYD has yet to say which configuration will be built locally, and Antunes indicated that locally produced hybrid models could eventually adopt flex-fuel technology.
