A prototype of BYD’s first Ocean Series MPV has been photographed charging at a BYD Flash Charger station in China. Images reported by Autohome show a tall, upright body, B-pillars, conventional front-door handles and sliding rear doors. A LiDAR unit is visible above the windshield. BYD Ocean Series general manager Zhang Zhuo said on August 23 that the company expected to launch its first MPV by year-end.

The test vehicle’s production-oriented shape differs from the Ocean-V concept shown at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026. That concept featured a five-seat lounge, swivelling front seats, a retractable steering wheel and a sliding central display. The spy images do not reveal the new MPV’s cabin, seating layout or whether any of those features will make production. It is also unclear whether the production vehicle is directly related to Ocean-V.

The roof-mounted LiDAR may indicate a higher-specification driver-assistance system; BYD uses roof LiDAR on some versions of its DiPilot systems, including DiPilot 300. Autohome has also reported a possible technical-platform link to the Dynasty-series M9, called the Xia in China, but BYD has not confirmed it. The Xia is a plug-in hybrid with a 1.5-litre turbo engine and a front electric motor; its August 2026 domestic sales were 327, down 21% from July and 76.9% year on year. Those details do not establish the Ocean MPV’s powertrain or sales prospects. BYD has yet to announce its price, dimensions or production specifications.
