BYD is weighing the Racco’s prospects in Indonesia after opening bookings in Macau and launching the compact electric car in Sri Lanka on October 9. The model was initially developed for Japan, and its expansion into other right-hand-drive markets has raised the possibility of an Indonesian arrival. BYD Indonesia has shown the Racco on its official social-media channels, but has not set a local launch date or confirmed that it will be sold there.

The company is studying demand and has conducted direct consumer surveys about the kei-car format. BYD Indonesia’s head of public relations and government affairs, Luther Panjaitan, said initial responses were encouraging, while stressing that the assessment is ongoing. He said a positive outcome could lead to the car being brought to Indonesia, but the company is waiting for its research before deciding what to do next.

In Japan, the Racco received 1,002 orders during its first two weeks on sale. BYD is targeting as many as 10,000 orders by the end of 2026. The four-seat car measures 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide and 1,800 mm high, with a 2,520 mm wheelbase and 280 litres of luggage space. Its two LFP battery options are 22.4 kWh and 35.84 kWh; the 47 kW motor produces 160 Nm of torque. BYD quotes ranges of 210 km and 320 km, respectively.
