BYD is expected to begin assembling vehicles in Pakistan in December 2026, with the Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid slated to be the first model produced locally. HUBCO management gave the updated schedule at an analyst briefing, according to a report by Arif Habib Limited. The proposed factory is near Karachi.

The plant is initially expected to build around 25,000 vehicles a year on double shifts, with scope to raise annual capacity to roughly 50,000. HUBCO had previously said operations would start before the end of 2026. BYD’s passenger vehicles in Pakistan have so far been supplied mainly as fully built imports, and the company plans to increase local content gradually after assembly begins. HUBCO has set a longer-term localisation goal of as much as 80%; imported components are expected to remain important at the outset.

HUBCO also reported that cumulative BYD sales in Pakistan have exceeded 10,000 units. Its electric-mobility business recorded about Rs1.5 billion in profit in the latest quarter, of which HUBCO’s share was approximately Rs780 million. Management expects sales to gain momentum once local production starts.

The Sealion 6 may be followed by other models: HUBCO is assessing vehicles aimed particularly at the higher-volume B and C segments. The report also names the Denza B8 and B5 among vehicles expected around the end of 2026. HUBCO has cautioned that local assembly will not mean high local content or lower prices immediately.
