BYD registered 24,114 vehicles in Brazil in October 2026, up 137.6% from the same month a year earlier. Its market share rose from 4.2% to 9.7%, putting the Chinese automaker fourth in the overall rankings behind Fiat, Volkswagen and General Motors. From January through October, registrations reached 193,227, more than 120% above the comparable 2025 period.

Retail sales accounted for 14,487 of October’s registrations, giving BYD 12.7% of that market and second place behind Volkswagen. The remaining 9,627 were direct sales, a channel that includes business and fleet buyers; that figure was about six times the year-earlier level. The results show growth across both individual and institutional customers.

The Dolphin Mini was the top-selling car in Brazil’s retail market, with 5,841 registrations. BYD says one of its electric models has led retail sales for nine months in 2026, with the Dolphin taking the top spot in July and August. The King plug-in hybrid recorded 1,343 retail registrations and led its segment for a second consecutive month.

BYD’s Camaçari complex in Bahia, opened in October 2025 at the site of a former Ford operation, has produced more than 150,000 vehicles and employs over 9,500 people directly. The company is also developing its local supplier base. BYD Brazil senior vice president Alexandre Baldy reiterated its goal of leading the country’s automotive market by 2030, though October’s top three each registered more vehicles than BYD.
