BYD is offering the Yuan Up DM-i plug-in hybrid in Colombia for COP 120 million. The SUV is the brand’s second plug-in hybrid in the country, following the first-generation Song Plus DM-i, and joins an existing all-electric Yuan Up. The review positions the hybrid setup as an option for drivers seeking electric running for shorter trips while retaining the flexibility of gasoline power. Colombia recorded 5,902 electric-vehicle sales in the previous month, up 216.63%, according to Fasecolda figures cited in the article.
The powertrain combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine rated at 97 hp and 122 Nm with a 145-kW electric motor producing 195 hp and 300 Nm. Combined output is 209 hp, sent to the front wheels through BYD’s DM-i system. The Yuan Up DM-i has Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow drive modes, a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h.
Its 18.03-kWh LFP Blade battery supports up to 100 km of electric-only driving and a combined range of up to 1,100 km under the NEDC test cycle. The car can recover energy while driving and has a Type 2 AC charging connection. Cabin features include a 12.8-inch central display, a 10.2-inch driver display, Google Automotive, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a panoramic roof. Safety equipment includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 driver-assistance functions such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
