Chery executive Su Jun says the Ford Bronco and Tesla Model S helped shape the goals for the company’s iCaur SUVs. The Bronco’s raised driving position offers the outward view Su wanted, while the Model S impressed him with its quiet, smooth electric performance. He said the team first designed for qualities it wanted in its own cars, then found that other buyers shared those preferences.
The iCaur brand is preparing to launch in Australia with the mid-size V25 in early 2027, followed by the larger V27. The V23, an electric SUV measuring 4.2 metres long, has not been confirmed for Australia. At the other end of the range, the V27 is about five metres long, with the V25 positioned between the two. The overseas lineup includes both battery-electric vehicles and extended-range electric vehicles.
The SUVs use upright, rugged styling associated with traditional off-roaders, but have unibody rather than body-on-frame construction. Su joined Chery with his research and development team in early 2024 and took charge of iCaur’s design, brand development and operations in 2025. The brand, called iCar in China and iCaur in export markets, was established in 2023. It has also signalled interest in less boxy designs, including through the Robox concept shown at the 2026 Beijing motor show.
