Chery global design director Steve Eum says the squared-off SUV shape is more than a passing trend. Its association with practicality, space and toughness continues to appeal to buyers, while designers can set models apart through their front and rear styling and other details.

The look has spread across Chinese brands, including models from Chery Group such as the Jetour T2 and the four-vehicle iCaur range. Chery expects to introduce iCaur in Australia in early 2027, where the brand will add a distinctly upright SUV offering.

A separate boxy SUV is also planned for Australia in 2027 under Freelander, a new brand jointly established by Chery and Jaguar Land Rover. Chery Australia says early interest in iCaur suggests there is enthusiasm for this style among Australian buyers.
