Chery plans to increase the share of its export vehicles made outside China from about 48% this year to more than 50% by year-end, 60% in 2027 and 70% by 2030. Executive Vice President Zhang Guibing outlined the targets at an event at the company’s headquarters in Wuhu, according to Reuters. Chery is pursuing local production in overseas markets rather than relying mainly on vehicles built in China and shipped abroad.

The company says its localisation push is intended to support employment and cooperation with local technology providers, as well as vehicle sales. Chery also plans to begin building fast-charging and energy-storage stations in countries including the UK, Spain and Thailand from 2027. It expects to introduce robotaxi services in the United Arab Emirates first, starting next year.

Chery is also considering ways to enter the US market, including a possible partnership with an American automaker. International executive Charlie Zhang said the company believes it could develop a solution using hardware and software that are not Chinese. The article describes Chery as China’s leading vehicle exporter for 23 consecutive years, while presenting overseas manufacturing as its next major expansion focus.
