Chery’s updated Tiggo 4 turbo hybrid made a brief preview appearance in China, where its stronger acceleration and revised styling impressed. The test car uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre hybrid system; Australian specifications and pricing have not yet been confirmed. The cabin remains a highlight for its space and presentation, while the steering felt very light during the short drive.
The new version is a later addition to the Australian range. Chery’s local product representative said the updated naturally aspirated hybrid is expected to arrive first, with the turbo hybrid potentially following in the second half of 2027 after Australian tuning. That schedule is tentative, and the car driven in China is not an exact guide to the locally tuned version.
For comparison, the existing Australian range starts at A$23,990 drive-away for the 2026 petrol Urban and reaches A$26,990 for the Ultimate. The current, non-turbo 1.5-litre hybrid costs A$29,990 in Urban trim and A$32,990 as an Ultimate. Chery quotes fuel use of 7.4L/100km for the petrol models and 5.4L/100km for the existing hybrid; neither figure applies to the new turbo hybrid. October offers can reduce the current petrol-hybrid price gap to A$5,500 for eligible buyers, subject to conditions.
The reviewer considered the extra performance enjoyable, but not enough on its own to justify a sizeable premium over the petrol model. A longer Australian drive is still needed to assess efficiency, ride, highway manners and driver-assistance systems. The final verdict will depend on local pricing and real-world performance.
