Pakistani automotive site PakWheels tested the Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV AWD on a 500 km round trip from Lahore to Kallar Kahar and back. Starting with its 18.3 kWh battery fully charged and a 60-litre fuel tank topped up, the SUV covered its first 60 km at a steady 120 km/h without using petrol. Across the complete route, including hill climbs, it recorded combined fuel economy of 13.5 km/L.
The seven-seat SUV pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors, an 18.3 kWh battery and a three-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission. Chery quotes combined output above 495 hp and 700 Nm, an electric range of up to 90 km under the NEDC cycle, and more than 1,000 km of total range. The test account describes the system switching between electric driving, engine-powered battery charging and combined power under stronger demand; it maintains a battery reserve of roughly 17–20% rather than running it to empty.
On the motorway, the reviewer found overtaking response strong and the cabin quiet at speed, although coarse pavement produced tire noise. The SUV remained stable, but showed body roll during abrupt lane changes. Its Level 2+ assistance package includes adaptive and intelligent cruise control with lane-centering support; the driver must still intervene when markings are poor or other traffic behaves unpredictably.
The review also noted uneven cabin cooling in hot sunshine, a conspicuous engine start when the battery reaches its reserve, firm second-row lumbar support and some controls buried in touchscreen menus. PakWheels judged the 13.5 km/L result favorable for a roughly two-tonne, 495 hp family SUV, while noting that city driving with greater reliance on electric power could improve efficiency.
