Lepas, a new Chery-owned brand, introduced the L6 electric SUV to Australian media in Sydney. The brand is positioning itself as a premium offering with value pricing, and plans to expand its Australian range by 2028. The L6 is currently offered in one Signature trim for A$47,990 before on-road costs, with sales through separate Lepas dealerships. A plug-in hybrid version is expected in Australia in 2027, though its specifications have not been announced.

The tested EV uses a 65kWh LFP battery and a single motor driving the front wheels, producing 160kW and 275Nm. Its claimed WLTP range is 440km, with DC charging up to 120kW; Lepas quotes 30-to-80 per cent charging in 22 minutes. The SUV measures 4,570mm long and has 435 litres of boot space with the rear seats raised, expanding to 1,255 litres when folded.

On the short drive, the L6 felt smooth and generally composed, with well-calibrated driver-assistance features and an interior that appeared solidly built. The review noted light, numb steering, braking that was difficult to judge, and a touchscreen-heavy cabin with too few useful physical controls. Ride quality was firm but not uncomfortable, although the brief, smooth launch route limited assessment of rough-road refinement.

The price puts the L6 among rivals including the Geely EX5, GAC Aion V, BYD Atto 3 Evo and Skoda Elroq. The review judged the L6 more polished in some respects than other Chery-group models, but questioned whether its strengths justify its price premium.
