China is now the production base for 22 of the 63 small electric cars available in Europe, according to figures covering the market at the end of September 2026. That is about 35% of the segment. Counting other non-EU manufacturing locations as well, 33 models are built outside the bloc, compared with 31 made inside it. The totals exceed 63 because the Citroën ë-C3 is produced in both Slovenia and Serbia and is counted on each side of the comparison.
The wider European battery-electric market has grown to 287 models, although it remains smaller than China’s. Compact cars make up the largest category, with 78 offerings; small cars follow with 63. Vans and MPVs account for 48 models, with 37 in the midsize class, 30 in higher segments and 15 luxury models. Stellantis has the broadest overall EV lineup in Europe, with 49 models, ahead of Volkswagen Group at 32.
Among small EVs, Spain is the largest European production location, with eight models, followed by France with six. Poland and Slovakia have four each. South Korea contributes three models, while India, Morocco and Serbia have two apiece; Turkey and Japan have one each. Stellantis leads manufacturers in the small-car category with 18 models, while Hyundai and Kia together offer six.
The figures point to a substantial role for Asian factories in supplying Europe’s smaller, generally more affordable EVs, even as European groups lead in the number of models offered.
